The majority of people who have an STI may not experience any symptoms.
An STI test is the only way to know for sure if you have an infection.
However STIs can produce a wide range of symptoms including:
-
Unusual discharge from the penis, anus, or vagina
-
Pain when passing urine
-
Unusual sores, ulcers or blisters in the genital area
-
Itching or irritation in the genital area
-
Discomfort or pain in the anus / rectum
-
Pain during sex
-
Bleeding between periods or after sex
-
Swollen testicles
-
An unusual rash
If you notice any of these symptoms or you feel you may have been at risk of infection, you should contact your STI clinic or doctor immediately. The sooner the infections are treated the less chance there is of transmitting the infection to others or of serious health problems later in life.
